INVIGILATOR : MALVERN - Paul Conneally and Nikki Pugh

INVIGILATOR : MALVERN was the 6th splacist intervention in the ongoing INVIGILATOR series by artists Paul Conneally and Nikki Pugh. It was commissioned by MECA in 2009 and has informed and continues to inform the practice of Conneally and Pugh, separately and together.
Both artists continue to explore space place and time via what some call psychogeography but they refer to as 'splacist' methodologies.
INVIGILATOR forms part Conneally's overarching Walk To Work series of interventions, works and exhibitions.

The Child Sculpture - Loughborough - Priley Riley 2015

The Child Sculpture by Priley Riley
The Child Sculpture currently sits inside the small Carillon Court shopping mall in Loughborough town centre. It was made in 2015 by then Loughborough University fine art student, Paula Riley, in celebration of 100 Years of Ladybird Books which was based in Loughborough.
Paula goes by her artist name Priley Riley which is also emblazoned across the book that The Child Sculpture is reading. Speaking at Loughborough University in 2015, Priley said:
"To make the sculpture, I first constructed an armature which I modelled the original clay child over. I then cast this clay child in plaster and used the plaster moulds to cast resin into. The final sculpture, therefore, is a glass fibre resin cast."
The Child Sculpture has become a favourite with children and adults alike as they do their shopping in Carillon Court and is sure to feature year on year in Loughborough's now annual festival of children's book illustration Loogabarooga that takes place each October across the town.

'I had breathtakingly wonderful sex with my former boss'

'I'm married and expecting my lover's baby who has no idea I have a husband'

'I cant stop thinking about my colleague but it will break my fiancee's parents' hearts'
'Dear Deirdre' is a series of drawings by Paul Conneally in response to the question 'Where do our morals come from?'. The source material here is the 'Dear Deirdre' problem page of The Sun newspaper, in fact The Sun Online. Conneally was brought to the Dear Deirdre page through his ongoing work 'Top Ten Returns' with the 'Dear Deirdre' page being in the top ten returns for the term 'morals' when searched for at The Sun website.

"Don’t commit suicide just because you are afraid of death" Danai Anesiadou
Danai Anesiadou: "Don’t commit suicide just because you are afraid of death"
Working across performance, installation and video, Anesiadou plays with rumour, fantasy, the mystical, and the intimacy of sharing secrets. For her first UK solo exhibition, Anesiadou layers allusions to classical myths from her native Greece, pop culture and contemporary politics together with references to her personal biography and every day experiences. Her exhibition includes sculptures from compressed personal objects, and a monumental wall installation which she imagines as a “horror-vacui” of theatrical and movie props. Anesidaou has also created a new performance that will be presented on 11 December.
At Nottingham Contemporary 10 Oct 2015 - 31 Dec 2015

Small Worlds - New Art Gallery Walsall
Small Worlds
21 May - 6 September 2015
Floor 3
Today, we live in a fluid culture where, within our towns and cities, different languages are spoken, different cultures and religions prevail and we can consume materials and goods from throughout the world. TV, the Internet, advertising and new technologies bring the whole of the world to our doorstep. High streets are becoming more generic with local distinctions and characteristics becoming increasingly obscure.
The artists in this exhibition focus their attention on the urban environment. Their work allows us to reflect on a variety of considerations. How do we understand the concept of the local within an increasingly globalised context? What impact does the transformation of our local environment have on our identity and our communities? For some artists, Walsall provides a focus for a consideration of the impact of social and economic change in those areas on the periphery of our major towns and cities.
Participating artists include AirSpace Gallery (Andrew Branscombe, Anna Francis, Glen Stoker), Graham Chorlton,
Rita Donagh, Richard Forster, Cameron Galt, Andreas Gefeller, Naiza Khan, Stuart Layton, Lucy McLauchlan,
Laura Oldfield Ford, Mark Power and Rashid Rana.
Many of the works selected are from Walsall's Permanent Collection including an international collection of works on the theme of the modern metropolis jointly acquired by The New Art Gallery Walsall and Birmingham Museums Trust, in partnership with Ikon Gallery, and with the support of the Art Fund through Art Fund International.
Join Head of Exhibitions and curator of Small Worlds, Deborah Robinson for an informal tour of the exhibition.
Just drop in!
