Towards A Splacist Manifesto On The Use Of PowerPoint Presentations

If anything since the Towards A Splacist Manifesto On The Use Of PowerPoint Presentations was first published May 2010 the cult of PowerPoint has become even stronger. It is time to act unact NOW!

Towards A Splacist Manifesto On The Use Of PowerPoint Presentations

We encourage all university lecturers, school teachers, business people and others to consign the PowerPoint presentation as most commonly currently used to the trash bin.

The only times these p(e)rveyors of usually seconhand thought should use PowerPoint presentations are when they use a previously unseen randomly downloaded PowerPoint slide show to illustrate whatever it is that they wish to pontificate on to their captive audience.

Students and other audience members should boo any speaker using a PowerPoint made by the speaker themselves or one that though not made by the speaker has been obviously rehearsed to by the speaker before hand.

The use of dance, music, boxing or any other performative act is actively encouraged in place of PowerPoint presentations.

The Umbrella Project - Hannah Nicklin

Splacist Hannah Nicklin explains The Umbrella Project

Click here for the SPLACIST MANIFESTO

"We reject your beginning, middle and end.
We will work on and across edges. We will push them. We will blur them.
We will trace and leave traces.
We will work with you, not for you."

Extract from SPLACIST MANIFESTO V2

SPLACIST MANIFESTO - V2

splacist (splā sĭst)

A contemporary mode of practice proposed by Paul Conneally. A new set of ideologies defined by Hannah Nicklin and Nikki Pugh. A hop, skip and a jump away from phsychogeography and the works of the situationist international. With more practice and less wine. Think space, place and splice. Though still with a bit of wine.

Developed empirically by whoever’s interested.

WE ARE THE SPLACISTS

We will own this city.
We will take it back.
We will link and shift; across time, space, people, places and processes.
We will weave throughout the fabric of people’s lives.
We will unpick it.

We will expose and re-see.
We recognise our observation affects the outcome unavoidably.
We will affect and be affected.
We will glory in the moment, the collage, the marking and then passing on.

We reject your beginning, middle and end.
We will work on and across edges. We will push them. We will blur them.
We will trace and leave traces.
We will work with you, not for you.

We reject your shopping centre, your pavement, your cultural quarter;
We will under mine pre-defined spaces. We reject them.

We will fail spectacularly, vitally, elegantly.
Our practice will be open, although it may not always be out in the open.

We will make exchanges.
We will make adventures.
We will reveal beautiful moments.
We will reveal the ugly.
We will hold your hand.
We will whisper in your ear ‘let go’.

We will reclaim the city, not for you, but with you.
We are you.

WE ARE ALSO THE TECHNOLSPLACISTS

We will not be technosplacist when being splacist will suffice.
We will never underestimate the power of cardboard and masking tape.
We will not be afraid to get our hands dirty.
We will not be afraid to do without digital at all.

We will use ‘digital’ as tool and material, not as veneer.
We recognise ‘digital’ is not necessarily something ‘other’.

We will make and share our own tools as appropriate.
We will collaborate.
We will be generous.
We will be porous.

We will re-reveal technology as used by private interests.
We will hold them accountable.
We will put it to our own uses.

We will cut, and we will paste.
We will undo.

We will be artful. We will be skilful. We will fail usefully.

We will find our own energy sources.

We will pervade.

A Circle of Fire, a set on Flickr.

A Circle of Fire is a 12 verse Junicho form renga written during the Grow Sheffield Renga Ramble.as part of Sheffield's festival of reading and writing 'Off the Shelf' 2007.

A Circle of Fire was conceived and led by poet / artists Anne - Marie Culhane (host poet) and Paul Conneally (master poet).

A Circle of Fire takes the process of renga (collaborative linked Japanese form) from where it is usually performed in a fixed space to movement through a space (stanzas 1- 6) from Weston Park Museum through Crookes to Sheffield's urban edge on Crookes Quarry Allotments where the last 6 verse are written.

Free Download: Natacha Atlas returns to the Global Dance-floor with Mounqaliba-Rising: The Remixes

In addittion to the sublime Another Fine Day remix on this album here we have David Starfire's remix of Batkallim.

After two highly acclaimed string driven, predominantly acoustic projects, Natacha Atlas returns to the Global Dance-floor with Mounqaliba-Rising: The Remixes. Globally celebrated singer Natacha Atlas' latest release Mounqaliba was a decidedly acoustic affair, recorded with a 20-piece Turkish ensemble and a chamber orchestra & integrating western and Arabic styles. Mounqaliba (which means being in a state of reversal' in classical Arabic) was a stunning set of original songs & evocative interludes, which also featured a beautiful version of Nick Drake's classic "Riverman". From her days singing with Transglobal Underground to her seminal solo releases,Natacha is acknowledged as a pioneer in fusing Middle Eastern and Electronica styles. Mounqaliba-Rising: The Remixes finds the vanguard of the global fusion world paying homage to one of the most distinctive & beautiful voices in modern music. Remixers Beats Antique, Nickodemus & The Spy From Cairo, Cheb i Sabbah, Bombay Dub Orchestra, Syriana, David Starfire, EarthRise SoundSystem, Kaya Project, Radiohiro, Dogbeats, Zab Spencer, Another Fine Day, 310, EarthRise SoundSystem & Basha Beats take Natacha's latest opus into new directions ranging from lush ambient journeys to dynamic rhythmic explorations.
